Two mates, a beach and some biligs

Les Suricates is Henri and Zak.

Henri surfs, and has been teaching his passion in Hatainville since 2018 with Vana Surf School. He knows the place like the back of his hand.

Zak is the magician: he picks the produce, dreams up the menu and cooks the galettes on the biligs. Galette of the moment, tapas of the moment… that's him!

Les Suricates opened on 15 May 2026, in the middle of Hatainville village: close to the dunes and on the way back from the beach. The idea was simple: a place to eat well after a surf session, a walk or a day at the beach, without taking ourselves too seriously.

Why “Les Suricates”?

“Suricate” is French for meerkat. Watch the Hatainville surfers before a session: perched in a group at the top of the dune, they scan the sea, keep an eye out for their mates' cars arriving, and all stand up at once when a wave comes in: real meerkats. All that's missing is the board under their arm!

On the bilig

Here, the buckwheat galettes and wheat crêpes are made on site, on the bilig, the traditional crêpe griddle. Zak is generous with the fillings and changes the galette of the moment depending on his mood and the market. The salted butter caramel, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and buckwheat crisps are homemade.

And alongside, we serve the best the Cotentin has to offer:

  • beer from Brasserie Cotentine;
  • cider from Vergers de la Passion;
  • fries from the Val de Saire;
  • jams from Les Délices de Camille;
  • whelks from Gilles Muzard, when the catch brings them in.

We loved it. The galettes and crêpes are excellent, made with quality produce, the team is young and really friendly and the atmosphere is lovely.
